Rainbow Snippets*-- Happy Spring!

I've crossed the 50K line this week. The goal is still to try and finish Smoke and Sparks by the end of the month, but if not, I'll be close. This week's snippet is the full scene I used as a teaser on the Twitter #writeLGBTQ tag. I like seeing other writers' contributions. It's a brotherhood of sorts, sharing our art (in word form!), just like sharing our Snippets each weekend!


This week's snippet:
The set up--It's the day after Thanksgiving and Daryl and Vaughn are visiting Daryl's uncle's garage. His older cousin, Larry, works there (a thoroughly unpleasant person) and he made some comments that upset Vaughn. Written from Daryl's POV:

“Sorry,” I said as I buckled my seat belt.
“It’s okay. Not your fault,” Vaughn replied softly. His hands were folded on his lap and he was worrying his fingers in a nervous gesture. “I should have dressed differently.”
“Hey, no!” I reached over to cover his hands with one of mine and he went still. “You dress the way you want. Larry doesn’t like anyone or anything. It has nothing to do with your outfit. Besides, I think you look hot.”
He flipped his top hand over so that we were palm to palm. His eyes were wet and I was afraid he was going to cry. “I just don’t want to embarrass you.”
“You don’t and you won’t. So let’s go grab something to eat and then we’ll meet up with Mike. We don’t have to stay very late. Besides, I kind of want to make an early night of it, if you get my drift,” I said, wiggling my eyebrows.
Vaughn snorted a laugh and wiped at his eyes. “Why do I think it’s my drift you want to get?”
“It’s absolutely your drift, and only your drift, I want.” Okay, maybe that was a bit sappy, but his pleased, shy smile told me it was the right thing to say.

I'm snipping again from Like Cracks in the Sidewalk . I said a few weeks ago that I was changing tense, but as I got farther into the story, I realized the way I'd written it originally does work better. So, although I still have plenty of work ahead of me, it's maybe not as much as I'd imagine.  James and Val met and moved in together, although they never really defined their relationship. It becomes dysfunctional eventually, and James gets hints of it but tries to ignore it. Rainbow Snippets*--More Squirrel Tales

It's been a slow writing week-- I think too much time was spent taking care of Peanut. He appeared to be using his back legs more, but we couldn't get a good feel for it since the "medi hutch" consisted of two bird cages that we wired together. But with a little elbow grease and some scrap lumber, the husband built a squirrel house and we crossed our fingers and released Peanut from his make-shift hospital.  He's moved right in. He scampers up and down the tree, albeit with a slightly awkward gait. We take him treats and there's a water bowl on "the deck". He's quite pampered...  ...and happy! This week's snippet is from Embers and Flame (book 1 of the Campfire Stories series). The setting is a campground where Ben stopped after having trouble with his motorcycle. Rainbow Snippet–The End is Near

That's not as ominous as it sounds, but I've got some big changes coming in the next months between this year's Farmers Market ending in a few weeks, and the business I work for up for sale. The end of Market means I'll be able to dedicate more time to writing, but the stress of not knowing if I'll still have a job in a couple of months is overlaying everything. Oh, well, it'll work out, one way or another.   Cattails on an afternoon walk.  Snipping once again from my current WIP, Like Cracks in the Sidewalk . No explanation needed for this snippet, other than the two MCs spent the night together and it's the next morning. Told from James' POV: Val tilted his head to watch as my eyes shot open.
