E & F Update

If it was a perfect world, I'd work steadily every day and finish this mammer-jammer by the end of the month. So very much not going to happen. I'll probably be lucky to finish it by the end of June. But we can always dream. I have noticed I work well with the NaNo challenges, but I think maybe it's because I keep track of my progress. If I have proof of progress, I keep my motivation up. To that end, I decided to keep track of my words each day. Total for last week was 3064 words, which averages 437 a day. Not where I want to be, but I had a couple of low-count days. I PDFed the first 12 chapters and put them on my Kindle, just so I could read without stopping to edit. And... maybe it's not a total disaster. My goal with this novel was to be a light romance, and I think I'm hitting that. It's harder than it looks!

I'm snipping again from Like Cracks in the Sidewalk . I said a few weeks ago that I was changing tense, but as I got farther into the story, I realized the way I'd written it originally does work better. So, although I still have plenty of work ahead of me, it's maybe not as much as I'd imagine.  James and Val met and moved in together, although they never really defined their relationship. It becomes dysfunctional eventually, and James gets hints of it but tries to ignore it. Rainbow Snippets*--More Squirrel Tales

It's been a slow writing week-- I think too much time was spent taking care of Peanut. He appeared to be using his back legs more, but we couldn't get a good feel for it since the "medi hutch" consisted of two bird cages that we wired together. But with a little elbow grease and some scrap lumber, the husband built a squirrel house and we crossed our fingers and released Peanut from his make-shift hospital.  He's moved right in. He scampers up and down the tree, albeit with a slightly awkward gait. We take him treats and there's a water bowl on "the deck". He's quite pampered...  ...and happy! Rainbow Snippets*–A Little Ramble

January found me in a writing slump. Like Cracks in the Sidewalk had been released into the wild, and I'd finished my Headphones Vella. I have a list of "what's next" but somehow I've been in a holding pattern. A big part of that is my day job situation. The business I work for sold, so I'm in the same building, looking at the same walls, but I have new bosses with different ways of doing things–including a new grocery supplier and new computer system I have to learn. If new challenges keep our brains young, mine will regress to teenagehood soon!  I'm so ready for spring to get here! I need leaves and flowers!  One of my new projects is editing an older manuscript and publishing it on Vella with the hope that it'll be the incitive I need to finish the second part of the story.
