  No matter what genre you love, this one has it all—and they are all free! Normally I join promos that are all M/M authors, but this one has a little of everything. My submission is the short, (and sweet) story, Cocky Lady. It was a story I wrote for an anthology during Cocky gate. I know Spring is still officially a few weeks away, but I don't think it can get here soon enough for me. We get hints of it occasionally, a warm day here and there, but then the temperatures drop and we get sleet and snow. Or at least that's how the last week has been. But I'm reminding myself that it won't be long before I can get my lawn chair out and sit in the sun while burgers are cooking on the grill next to me!    I really started this year out without much of a goal other than "finish this current WIP and then decide." And even though Smoke and Sparks isn't coming easily, I'm only a few pages away from the 40k mark, which means I'm on the home stretch. So... what I've decided, although this will probably change, is to finish this and then put it away to "stew" for a bit, then complete the rewrites on the Headphones series and put serious work into publishing them. Hopefully, that would be for a Fall release. Possibly ...

I'm taking a break from Smoke and Sparks this weekend and taking a small jump back to last year. I got involved in an anthology during #Cockygate and the theme, so to speak, was Cocker Spaniels. We did it as a fundraiser to help with legal fees for authors who were hurt by it. Since it wasn't needed, it was decided to donate the money to the RWA Perseverance fund. It was always meant to be a limited run and the book will be pulled from Amazon at the end of the week, which is how it should be. I'm proud of my little story, Cocky Lady , and so enjoyed writing it. It's about Ethan and his dog, Lady. And yes, Lady and the Tramp was his favorite movie when he was a boy. I found my favorite bench overlooking the duck pond and unhooked Lady’s leash. I never worried about letting her loose—she was good about staying close. Usually, she nosed around and maybe chased a toad or a cricket, but she never strayed. Which is why I panicked when I lost sight of her. “Lady, here...

     Cut Shot is still moving much too slow but I'll keep at it and (eventually) it'll get done. I'm beginning to understand what other authors mean, though, when they talk about all the other things involved with writing and publishing getting in the way of actual writing. That's a big part of the delay on getting to "the end" with this current WIP.      It's all good stuff, really, but time-consuming. I entered Embers and Flame into a query contest and made it into the first round. I didn't make it to the second, but I got some positive comments and constructive criticism, so I'm happy with it. It would have been nice to make it through another round or two, but at the same time I found myself obsessively checking the site, so maybe it's a good thing!     My short story, Cocky Lady, is included in the Cocky Cockers anthology coming out in a couple of weeks.
