Rainbow Snippets*-- Looking Forward

It's been a rough week, both physically and mentally exhausting, and I fell behind on my word count. But each week is a fresh start, so hopefully, the next one will be better! The one good thing, though-- Peppercorn opened his eyes! (There will possibly be lots of kitten photos for the summer. Sorry if you don't like cats.)

This week's snippet is again from Headphones: In From the Cold. The girl called Headphones is very uncomfortable around Scoey (although the reader won't really know why until the second book!), which is compounded when he moves into The House, where she is also living: 

Headphones shuffled through the drizzle and fog. On nights like this, the cold and dampness sank into her bones and even a scalding-hot shower wasn’t enough to warm her. Her family had lived in several places over the years, but almost always it had been somewhere south, warmer and dryer. Her old memories had been flooding in, as if finally being settled, static, had opened some gate that she thought she’d locked tight. They were making her feel crazier than usual and she found herself dwelling on them. This latest mental upheaval was because of Scoey. He wasn’t him, but it was still there, in his clothes, his hair cut, his height. It was all so similar. She couldn’t even see the man’s face anymore, the blurred glimpse that had haunted her dreams. Now it was Scoey she saw in her nightmares. It came back in waves every time she was in the same room as him.
