Rainbow Snippets*--May in Bloom
Snow last week, rain this week. At least the frogs are happy! I dug up most of the flower beds a few years ago and replaced the ornamentals with edibles. But there are still plenty of flowers to attract the bees and the hummingbirds!
Last week snow, this week rain. But the flowers are blooming, so it's all good.
This week's snippet again comes from Cinders and Ash. Lindsey fell asleep on the couch while she and Brian were watching a ball game, and she wakes to find she's used him as a pillow. From Lindsey's POV:
It had grown dark
outside, but I blinked up at him as my eyes adjusted to the lamplight. “Sorry.”
I moved to sit up, but his hand on my shoulder held me down.
“Don’t be,” he said and leaned over to kiss me. It was soft, nothing more than a slip of his lips against mine, almost as if he feared I’d shove him away. Reaching up, I wrapped my hand around the back of his neck, holding him there, and returned the kiss. The television was off and the room was quiet beyond the normal noises—the hum of the refrigerator, footsteps from the apartment above, too much bass from a passing car. But it was white noise, the soundtrack, maybe, to life in a city. I tuned it out, listening instead to Brian’s small moan, the beat of his heart, and the shakiness of our breaths. The kiss deepened with the slide of our tongues and I shifted, making it easier to mold our mouths together. His beard was soft and his lips were firm, and it was the most perfect combination to light every nerve ending in my body.

Cinders and Ash-- Blurb
Society expects women to want romance and monogamy, but Lindsey Andrews has no desire for either of these things—she’s quite happy with the occasional hookup. Besides, working towards her Doctorate takes up most of her time. Just because the new maintenance man has broad shoulders and looks good in tight jeans doesn’t mean she’s going to start dreaming of wedding bells.
The job offer as a maintenance manager for an apartment complex in Missouri couldn’t have come at a better time for ranch-hand Brian Ashton. He needed to get away from Wyoming, but trading the wide-open sky for the tall buildings and traffic of St. Louis holds its own challenges. Meeting the caustic, green-haired Lindsey only adds to his stress. But it isn’t all bad, because she needs a fake boyfriend for a camping trip and he needs fresh air.
Neither of them expect the weekend to change everything.

I love how beautifully you painted the scene. ❤️
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read of these two, he seems to be more likely to push her away than her push him away.
