Rainbow Snippets*–The Joy? of Christmas

Because of work schedules, we haven't had "Christmas" yet, but my daughter arrived yesterday, and my son is off tomorrow. I'm fixing us a nice dinner and we're going to open presents. The day we celebrate doesn't matter as much as being together, after all. So what did I do Christmas day, you ask? Rewatched episodes 4 and 5 of Heated Rivalry while I waited for the Cottage!

“How about I just skip tonight? And tomorrow? In fact, I’ll hitch a ride back home and we can forget I was ever here. No one will miss me.”

For too many people, the holidays aren't a happy time, and it was that way for Vaughn in Smoke and Sparks.  To his family, it's all about keeping up appearances and nothing about actually liking each other. Vaughn is dreading the week, as well he should. FYI Matthew is Vaughn's brother:

 The car Matthew sent wasn’t a car—it was a limo. With him in it. And here I thought the day couldn’t get worse. 
All the plans I’d made to not go until Christmas Eve were dashed when Claire mentioned she’d covered my shifts after Father’s secretary contacted her. That was followed by a text from Mother with the agenda for the week, followed by a series of addendums and a list of what I was required to pack. Not that it mattered. She’d have a new wardrobe purchased and hanging in my old closet, labeled with the days they were to be worn. There was no need to bring my own clothes.

I don't have words for this last week. So I'm just going to leave it at that. I did go spend the night with my daughter and her partner over the weekend (they live 3 hours away). Sometimes you just need your family.  This weekend's snippet comes from Like Cracks in the Sidewalk . It's 1995. James and Val are taking a walk during the early days of their relationship. Rainbow Snippets*--Autopilot

This whole year has been unsettled (probably because of my day job situation) and I feel like I'm slogging through water on autopilot. It's definitely been one thing after another, with this last week being filled with hospital stays and doctors' appointments for my mom. Sadly, it has left little time to devote to my writing. I had every intention of publishing Blind Ante and Cut Shot months ago and then hit Delicious hard, but life said no. Hopefully, I'll be looking for beta readers for the first two very soon. Deep breath, right? Things will get better.  The last chapter of Blind Ante , before the epilogue, takes place on Thanksgiving day. (And since it's Thanksgiving week in the USA...) Rainbow Snippets*—Not Enough Time!

Time's getting away from me. So much to do and not enough time to do it! But that's always December. The writing has gone on hiatus, but hopefully I'll be able to get back to it after Christmas. Right now I have too many cookie orders to bake and I've been running back and forth to doctors' appointments with my mom. It takes a lot out of a person! This week's snippet is from my current WIP, Cut Shot , which starts at Thanksgiving and takes place through the following holidays. Jed, who isn't out to his family, is showing his love interest his childhood bedroom. Not surprising, they end up on the bed, making out:  Ian allowed himself to be manhandled and pulled back across the bed until he was trapped against Jed’s chest.
