Rainbow Snippets*–Celebrate!

This last week has been one of extremes. We had temperatures of over 70F–I got my lawn chair out and soaked up some sun, walked at the nature center, and lit up the grill. It was fantastic but short-lived. There was hail and a tornado in my area as the temperature dropped back down into the teens. And I somehow picked up a cold. It's done its own swing all week. Just as I was feeling better, it took another plunge down, oddly following the pattern of the weather. 

Could it just be spring already?

Aromantic flag: colors shades of green, white, grey, and black


This week was Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week. To 'celebrate', my book Cinders and Ash is on sale. Lindsey is having an argument with her brother, Cherry, when Brian, the maintenance man, comes out of the bedroom, where he'd been adjusting the closet door. Lindsey takes advantage of the moment. Told from Lindsey's POV:

Cherry grabbed onto one of the words I’d just said. “Boyfriend? You? Since when?”

His tone irritated me, which made it into a challenge. And I never backed down from a challenge. “I could have a boyfriend. It’s not impossible.”

Except, Cherry had a good reason to question me–I’d told him I was aromantic soon after I connected the word to how I felt about boyfriends and marriage and the whole domestic-settling down thing.

Before I said more, Brian came out of my bedroom, bare-chested. His shirt was hanging from his back pocket for some odd reason. I didn’t ask why, but I thanked the Goddess of Good Timing, not only because Cherry’s jaw dropped to the floor, but because Brian’s chest was a thing of beauty.

I've starting to feel like Blind Ante and Cut Shot are never getting published. Always, there is something else that has a higher priority. Rainbow Snippets*-- More from Delicious

It's 4th of July weekend here in the US. I used to really like it, back when I was younger. We'd have a cook-out with friends, or go camping, then in the evening go watch fireworks. But also, back then, fireworks without a license were illegal in my state, and in my town. It's not now. And , it's not just one night of my neighbors setting off bang after bang late into the night. No, it's a week of it. It's a week of little sleep, since my jobs usually require being up by 5 am. I'm too old for this! I need my sleep.     The sun breaking through the trees during a recent walk at the local Nature Center.  This week's Snippet comes from my current WIP, Delicious . Rainbow Snippets*--The Good and the Bad

It was a rough week. My phone died, along with my oven. On the upside, I finished the first draft of Delicious ! (If you're interested in being a beta reader, check out my previous post.) It was supposed to be part of a series of fairy tale retellings, but I think we're just publishing on our own. I ended up with Hansel and Gretel, which was a challenge. How to retell a tale about sibling children without crossing a few lines? That's not my style. So, it's not really a retelling so much as "and then this happened" story. I never can stay within the set parameters!   There are strange noises in Grady's new house, but one night it becomes too much, and he shows up at Hanson's, still in his pajamas. Turns out, it was a refrigerator fan gone bad. (Or was it?!) Hanson fixes it and then teases Grady. Grady teases back.
