Rainbow Snippets* – The End of Summer

Last Sunday it was a sweltering 90+° with the humidity factor over 100°. Then Monday barely broke out of the 60s, and it's been that way all week long. Many people love it, but me, not so much. Yes, Fall brings cooler temperatures and possibly some pretty colors, but it also means the end of shorts, running around barefoot, and Winter will be here soon. I am not a cold-weather person. It makes me miserable. I need sunshine! Hopefully, it will be a mild winter with an early Spring. (Yes, I'm thinking that far ahead!)

This snippet comes from Blind Ante, the first book in the Bar Games series. As I've said previously, the old trailer that Jordan and Reese inhabit is as much a side character as the side characters are. Maybe more so. From the beginning of Chapter 3. Oh, and Cow is a toy bobblehead sitting on the dash:

   Jordan’s hands were shaking when he finally slid into his car. “Shit, Cow, I am so screwed.” He dug around for a cigarette, but all he found were half-a-dozen empty packs. He needed to give Vicky a good clean, but it wouldn’t be today. 
   “Fuck it. I don’t want to smell like an ashtray. After. I’ll buy a new pack and smoke them all.” ‘After’ being the job interview waitress Miranda had arranged with diner owner Tammy. But he paused and wondered if there was any reason to get a job if he was going to be homeless and on the road by the end of the day. He stared at the trailer. It wasn’t much, but already, when he was inside its tin-can walls, there was a sense of comfort and security that he’d lost after he left Kansas. Hell, he hadn’t had either of those things when he was growing up, he admitted to himself. No wonder he didn’t want to lose it.

The week started out nice. There was sun. There was warmth. And now it's cold, it's gloomy, and we had snow flurries today. Can we not do this, please? I really need to move to a warmer climate! The sun through the window hit this basket of artificial fall leaves and made them glow!  This snippet from Headphones: Fall Out is a chapter opening that starts out descriptive with Headphones reflecting on the changes in her life since the first of the year. Rainbow Snippets--Blind Ante

I've starting to feel like Blind Ante and Cut Shot are never getting published. Always, there is something else that has a higher priority. I'm working on a novella at the moment for a project at the end of the year. Since it's a group project, it's front and center. And since I'm a slow writer, it'll probably take me all summer to finish the first draft. I need life to slow down! In this snippet from Blind Ante , Jordan has come into the bar where Reese works. He's not usually much of a drinker, but on this one night, there is something obviously bothering him. After a couple of shots and a beer, he starts singing. The little ditty has significance later in the story. Do you recognize it? Reese went back to work, tossing bottles and flirting, but he kept an eye on Jordan as he sat with his jaw resting on his palm. Rainbow Snippets* --Happy New Year!

2018. What can I say? I'm at that age where one asks "Where has the time gone?" but at the same time, in so many ways, this year has seemed endless. My goal for 2018 had been to start publishing and I did manage to have one short story published, so I met that goal; just maybe not in the way I meant. Therefore, my goal for 2019 is to get brave, make concrete decisions, and publish at least one of my books! That's as far as my resolutions go. (after all, who likes a skinny, sober bitch anyway?!)  My snippet this week comes from one of my first manuscripts, When Silverfish Dance . It's not a romance so much as a Suspense with Romantic elements. In other words, it ends with a HFN instead of a HEA. Although, if I ever manage to write the sequel...!
